So I turned my PC on last night and my KB and mouse wouldn't work. WTF good is a computer if you can't interact with it? So, I had this brilliant idea that my motherboard's USB controller was shot so today I found a PS/2 KB and mouse. Lo and behold, it worked! Lucky for me, I had a PCI USB controller card sitting around collecting dust.

Unluckily, I only have one PCI slot and my sound card was occupying that slot. So, I had to dig out my mobo's riser sound card and plug that piece of shit in too. So, with my new cards in and my mouse and keyboard working again I'm sitting here waiting for my stupid audio drivers to download - which for some reason are only going at 15k a second no matter which mirror I use.

Anyway, my motherboard is slowly falling apart :(. Sometimes it freezes while checking the memory while booting. I've tried other memory sticks and the same problem persists. I have to unplug the PC and drain the power and then it usually works. Plus my HD has a persistent problem with the boot sector that forces me to leave the XP CD in the DVD drive just to boot the computer. Been that way for a while now. A format fixes it for a month or two then it reoccurs.

I'm bored. Just waitin on a DL......

So the gist of this story is that I need some serious upgrades to my computer that I can't afford. I can keep patching it up with duct tape, but that's only going to be good for so long. I need a new motherboard and hard drive. HD is easy. Mobo is not so simple. I can just get a quick replacement, but then I know I'm going to want to upgrade to an AM3 slot eventually, so why waste money on yet another AM2 mobo? But I can't afford a complete mobo/CPU/RAM upgrade right at the moment, so WTF can I do?

Im still rocken a 939 dood.

In fact, my upgrade last year was going from a 3000+ to an Opteron dual core I managed to score.

So, No... you dont have my sympathy.

But I would just do the "quick replacement." The "eventually" could be a ways off yet. But thats just me, pimpin it with my dinosaur-rig
